A proposal made to parliament to look into the thousands of unsolved cases of missing and murdered aboriginal females, as well as set up an “action plan” to prevent these crimes from further happening was discarded recently. I was ticked by this, but when I read some of the terms from the action plan, it was irritating too! Reading things like providing “$5 million over 5 years to aboriginal communities and aboriginal men and boys, to denounce and prevent violence against aboriginal women”, it seems like they’re placing the blame of these targeted women on only the aboriginal community. A lot of the women were victims in large cities and not on the reservations so the government is still trying to tell us it’s all their (aboriginals) fault. I hope the first nations minister keeps pushing for initiative.
